    Peer Review #1

Blog link: http://parkonthewater.com/ This week I reviewed Lucas’ blog “Park on the Water” At first glance I really enjoyed the different layout of the blog. It was a more website style rather than a traditional blog. I liked this because it seemed very open, and easy to browse through. However, at first, I wasn’t sure what the blog was about but after the first sentence of the first blog post, it became clear to me. Lucas’ first blog post about their paddling experience was truly inspirational. Not only did they write about their first paddling experience but it was how this particular experience had impacted their life. The part when…

    Mini Assignment #2

You know, it’s not easy living in the under the sea. Everyone is here praising and saying oh how beautiful and young little miss Ariel is but just you wait. I was like that when I was young, but to still look the way I do at this age? It takes work. Wanna know the secret? Well let me tell you. Ariel is so silly for thinking that being above the water is the best thing ever. Well, I’m not saying don’t go get some vitamin D but do take precautions when you’re outside. SPF is your best friend. Just because you don’t see the sun, does not mean there…

Process Post #3: Maintaining a blog

Boy oh boy is having a blog a lot harder than I thought. I’ve never been the kind of person to keep a journal or write about their day, this is my first time ever having a blog. I wasn’t really sure what I was getting into, and there were some ups and downs of trying to set it up but I feel like I’m getting the hang of it. I think, one of the hardest things of having a blog is coming up with what the heck you’re going to be writing about. I’m glad that I chose a topic that I am passionate about and broad enough to…

    What’s a Toner?

In the “Back to the Basics” blog post I briefly talk about toners and what they do. Here I’ll try to break it down a bit more. If you remember from Science class, a pH scale tells us how basic or acidic something is. It is a scale of 0 -14, 0 being most basic (there’s a joke here) and 14 being the most acidic. Human skin roughly a pH of 5.5.¬†When you wash your face with water, the water is changing the pH of your skin. Water is basic, so when you wash your face it brings the pH level down. Using a toner will help balance this pH.…

Process Post #2: Setting up my blog

As I am still trying to figure out how to work WordPress and find a theme that I can work with, and have a bit more creative freedom, I started looking for some inspiration and ideas on how I want to build my blog. I started a Pinterest board to start thinking about what my blog would look like. I want my blog to stand out, bright colours and to be fun. I also liked the idea of adding infographics to help readers better understand the content and for me to explain certain things. I think this is something I can incorporate into some of my posts. I also looked…

    Why skin care?

Disclaimer: I’m in no way an expert or skin care professional, I just love skin care products and want to share my personal experience! Once upon a time I did work at a facial spa, not in the back but rather just the receptionist and sales. We had our own line of products I had to learn about, and clients that came in regularly for their facials. Before this I liked trying out different products here and there but I never really knew what I needed, and more importantly why I needed it. Here I learned the basics of skin care. What it meant to have oily vs dry skin,…

Process Post #1: Meeting a stranger

I met a stranger last week in my class. Lucky for me, being a 7th year in school, it’s easy to walk into a classroom full of people I don’t know. It’s like 1st year all over again, but less eager and reserved. Why is this I ask myself? I think I thought I was at a point where I can go about my semester without having to put the extra effort knowing those around me. I find that this thinking comes with a lot of excuses, “I don’t have time” or “I don’t need more friends” but after reading the article “How to talk to strangers” by James Hamblin,…
